My technique includes the use of underglazes to paint detailed imagery on ceramic bisque wear. Every element of the piece is hand painted. I typically plan designs on paper and then transfer those images to the ceramic surface. Each piece is fired in the kiln after the underglaze application and then fired once more with a clear glaze coat. All of my pieces are food safe but I do not recommend putting them in the dishwasher.

Each piece is made from ceramic slip that has been poured into plaster molds which is then fired before the underglaze painting and clear glaze. The molded forms allow a uniformity of forms for sets as well as a smooth surface for detailed painting. I use these forms primarily as a canvas for my painting.

I was a printmaking major in college and found ceramics via a summer job during which I painted realistic Missouri wildflowers on dish sets and other giftware. Having never worked with clay or glazes before, I was amazed by the amount of detail that could be achieved on ceramic surfaces. I became a self-taught student of the medium which led to both the individual pieces that I make for Art Fairs and private commissions, as well as large-scale installations. My installation work includes pieces for residential, commercial and institutional clients including locations such as restaurants, schools and museums.
